    Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Coimbatore

    Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Coimbatore is one of the constituent colleges of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. This is the first college started in South India for offering Agricultural Engineering degree programme and the first batch of students were admitted in July, 1972. The college is having six departments namely Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Food Process Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Physical Sciences and Information Technology and Centre  for Post Harvest Technology.

    Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Coimbatore is offering four year degree programs in B.Tech. (Food Technology), B.Tech. (Energy and Environmental Engineering), B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering), Masters’ and Doctoral degree in the fields of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Processing and Food Engineering and Soil and Water Conservation Engineering.

    The application of engineering in agriculture is mandatory for complete mechanization of agricultural farms. This programme provides the students with both theoretical and practical knowledge on engineering applications in agriculture. The curriculum involves courses in basic agriculture, basic engineering, soil and water conservation, farm machinery and power, food processing and renewable energy. The students can be able to shine in all fields and also the programme helps the students to transform themselves as a young entrepreneur. Also Tamil Nadu Agricultural University offers B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) with a curriculum designed particularly to cope up with industrial needs, with a view to mould the student’s job oriented and get better placements after graduation.

    Course Objective

    Agricultural Engineer is a bridge between farming community and the industrial world. Only an agricultural engineer can convert the imagination of farmer to reality by linking with industry. Hence the programme

    • Integrates the knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering in agriculture
    • Aims to provide practical knowledge to the students by learning about latest agricultural technologies and modern agricultural engineering tools and machineries
    • Aims to help students understand the emerging problems in agricultural farms and developing innovative solutions
    • Aims to prepare students for attaining a successful career in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Food Process Engineering and Renewable Energy Engineering

    Future Career

    Graduates are employed in industries related to tractor and farm implement in research & development and sales, food processing, food storage, irrigation, bio mass, solar and wind. They can serve as design engineers in all fields related to agricultural Engineering. Graduates are also employed in government sectors like Banking, Agricultural Engineering Department and Food Corporation of India. They can also serve in foreign countries as landscape engineer and design engineer. Many students have also evolved as successful entrepreneurs.

    Opportunities for Master’s Degree

    Opportunities for the B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) graduates in higher education is always demanding as  the course is crafted to focus more on students who can pursuit academic excellence in various spheres of Agricultural Engineering. The students can write competitive exams like ICAR-JRF, CAT and GATE so that they can pursue masters in other state and central universities. Agricultural Engineering course is basically a platform of emerging technology and inter-disciplinary in nature with diversified syllabi, students can choose to study various allied courses of specialization for their Master of Science in Foreign Universities. The students can also get opportunity to undergo integrated Ph.D. in many fields in Foreign Universities
