    Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Agricultural College and Research Institute, Eachangkottai, Thanjavur

    The Agricultural College and Research Institute (AC & RI), Eachangkottai, Thanjavur was established in 2014. This is one of the 14 constituent colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) providing Under-Graduate education in Agricultural Sciences. It is located at a distance of 18 km from Thanjavur with an area of 124 acres. Now, the college is functioning with five departments with full fledged administrative block, laboratories, library, auditorium and smart classrooms.

    College Mandate

    • To function as an educational institute to offer undergraduate B.Sc.(Hons.) Agri degree programme
    • To organize inter disciplinary research for solving the location specific problems in the Cauvery Delta Zone
    • To evolve crop varieties and technologies best suited for Cauvery Delta Zone
    • To meet the demand for technological manpower of the State and Private entrepreneurs
    • To provide technical know-how for the development of Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-based industries in this region
    • To organize technology transfer through training of farmers and in collaboration with the State Agricultural Department

    UG Progammes Offered

    The bachelors programmes offered are focused on agriculture and allied subjects. These academic programmes provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge on agriculture, horticulture, forestry, sericulture, biotechnology, agribusiness management, Energy and Environmental engineering, agricultural engineering and food technology, which they can use it to further research in master’s and also transform themselves as a young entrepreneur.

    1. B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

    Bachelor’s Agriculture Programme –  B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

    How to ensure a healthy and hunger-free society with 783 crores of people on our planet? This is what the interdisciplinary bachelors programme B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture is about.
    The programme inculcates learning farming skills with scientific background and having its unique social scientific perspective by studying about the farming community through extension education

    Study Program

    The B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture is a four-year program. The curriculum includes basic courses on agriculture and allied sciences. Students will have rich exposure to farming, laboratory analysis, industry internships and experiential learning courses to earn while learn.  Method of teaching includes lectures, farm work, laboratory analysis, and presentations.

    Future Career

    Graduates can be employed in the agro-based industries dealing seeds, fertilizer, pesticide, farm implements and equipments and food processing. The graduates are also employed in research institutes, Agri-Clinics, weather and price forecasting and other consultancy sectors. They can also become agri-entrepreneurs.

    Moving to Master’s

    Graduates can pursue the Masters in Agriculture in several disciplines of Agriculture like Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural Pathology, Meteorology, Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Master of Business Administration, Biotechnology, Food technology, Crop physiology, Remote sensing, Environmental science, Agricultural Microbiology, Geographical Information System, Agricultural Nematology, Agricultural statistics etc. in any of the State and Central Agricultural Universities and also peer institutions at abroad.

    Hostel Facilities

    The University main campus has separate hostels for boys and girls with requisite infra-structural facilities. There are six hostels for boys and four for girls supported by modern kitchen cum dining hall. Additionally, Norman Borlaug International Hostel is available for accommodating International students and professors quarters for visiting fellows and external experts. A refreshment home is also functioning to cater to the food needs of the day-scholars, staff and visitors.

    Students who are given admission in the hostel are required to join the mess. The mess offers simple, but full-fledged meals at moderate rates, which may vary from time to time depending on the cost of the meals served.
